AMPS

  • Choose a time period of five consecutive days. You’ll want to pick dates that are at least four to nine months in the future to allow enough time for participants to see the course offering, make plans, and get funding.
  • Reserve a suitable room based on the number of people you hope will attend. The room will need tables, chairs, LCD projection equipment, internet access, and a good speaker system. Class times will be from about 8 am to 6:30 pm.
  • Get the word out about the course! Contact schools, hospitals, OT practices, list serves, and anyone you think would benefit from the course. We have flyer templates you are welcome to use. We will also post the course information on our website to promote the course and allow people to register.
  • Plan to offer snacks and drinks at each break time. We take two breaks per day. Typical snacks include coffee, tea, water, plus some healthy foods like cheese, fruit, and bagels. Your offerings don’t have to be fancy or expensive, just provide some quick energy to keep the group going. Participants are on their own for lunch.
  • Help gather demonstration materials that are difficult to travel with (e.g., ironing board, vacuum). We’ll give you a list and the teaching faculty will contact you about specifics. Most items do not need to be purchased and can be brought in from home, a clinic, or school.
  • Recruit a volunteer to help with a live observation exercise on Day 5 of the course. AMPS course participants learn by watching a real person being interviewed and performing two ADL tasks in the classroom or available ADL space. We will need your help to find a person for this live observation and provide him or her with a small thank you gift or cash (about $20).
  • Provide each course participant with a nametag and a yellow highlighter.
Cost for hosting will vary depending upon your resources. The host provides:
  • Room, needed LCD/AV equipment, internet connection
  • Advertising for the course
  • Nametag and highlighter for each participant
  • Light snack and drinks for two break times per day (for five days)
  • Small gift or cash (about $20) for live observation guest
  • Demonstration items, most brought from home, work, or school
  • Any other local fees, licenses, taxes needed
As the host, you receive one free seat ($995 USD value) for the course. Once your course reaches 20 paid participants, you receive one free seat for every 10 paid participants.

Along with a high-quality course worth 45 contact hours, CIOTS provides:

  • 1-3 qualified faculty, as needed per the number of participants
  • Travel, hotel, meals, and expenses for all faculty
  • Course registration services and administration
  • AMPS manuals for each participant shipped to your course site
